Ms. O’Toole has been a counselor educator in the College of Education and Human Services since 2009, initially as an adjunct instructor, then becoming full-time Teaching Instructor in 2011. She teaches several courses for the Master of Arts Counseling Program, provides field placement supervision and is also a student advisor. Her areas of specialty that she brings to the counseling faculty are trauma, addiction, attachment theory, neuroscience and somatic interventions.
Heidi, a WVU Alum, and former Mountaineer athlete, is a most passionate educator and human service advocate. Heidi's approach to both education and service is one in the same: "People don't care about how much you know, until they know how much you care." She role models this for her CAHS graduate students, with the emphasis on establishing a supportive connection with them while concurrently preparing them to develop the capacity to be of service to others.
She is also the co-founder of WV Therapy and Wellness Center in Morgantown, WV, which serves both individuals and families navigating through the systemic complexities of emotional dysregulation, attachment injuries, trauma and addiction. Heidi’s utilizes a neuro-somatic attachment based approach to support those she serves in their healing process, combining Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), meridian point tapping and various forms of energy work.
Ms. O’Toole has also developed three comprehensive group curriculums that are currently being implemented by the WV Division of Juvenile Services, Florida Juvenile Justice, PA Bureau for Drug and Alcohol Programs, and Pressley Ridge Adolescent Residential Facilities.
