The College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is committed to making an impact in the state of West Virginia. Our faculty engage in research initiatives that address real-world challenges, offering tangible benefits across the state. Since 2022, College faculty generated more than $14 million in sponsored funding to support the educational, mental, emotional, and physical well-being in schools and school communities.
The College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is committed to conducting research that makes a difference in West Virginiaās schools, communities, families, and individuals. Our engaged scholarship approach empowers students, faculty members, and community partners to collaborate on projects that address pressing social and educational issues in the state. The questions we investigate and the discoveries we make provide insight into real-life solutionsāaddressing everything from the teacher shortage, to improving physical and mental health, to enhancing educational opportunities, and improving educational outcomes.
The College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is committed to teaching that prepares our students to become leaders in their chosen professionsāfrom teachers, to policy analysts, to social service providers, to coaches, to counselors. Through coursework, practical experiences, and community engagement, we design our teaching contexts to give students real-life experiences that they can draw on in their future careers. And through our teaching, we strive to bring learning opportunities to all West Virginians by providing different ways to access and participate in our programsāfrom face-to-face to online offerings, from local to remote contexts.

Together with community partners we engage in activities for the betterment of the schools, communities, families, and individuals we serve.
In the College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University, sometimes our projects and activities do not fit under research, teaching, or service alone. Instead, they might involve both research and teaching, or service and research, or another combined effort. This is the case for the projects and activities included on this tab. These projects involve at least two areas of research, teaching, or service; many involve all three. Whatever the combination may be, however, the primary focus remains the sameāto enhance the lives of West Virginians across the state.
