    Susan Barnes was inducted into the inaugural College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. She was previously inducted into the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 2001.

    A native of Greene County, Pennsylvania, Barnes graduated from Jefferson-Morgan High School in 1964. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from West Virginia University in 1968 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Arkansas in 1972. While at WVU, she was a four-year member of the cheerleading squad, serving as captain during her junior and senior years. She also performed with Orchesis from 1964 to 1967 and appeared in WVU’s production of West Side Story, marking the beginning of her acting career.

    2005 Outstanding Alumni Award

    J. William “Bill” Douglas was inducted into the inaugural College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. He was previously inducted into the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 2001 and was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus in 2005.

    A native of Morgantown, W.Va., Douglas was born on Jan. 9, 1939. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and biology and a Master of Science degree in health and safety education from West Virginia University, both in 1962. He completed a Ph.D. in physical education and higher education administration at The Ohio State University in 1969. While at WVU, he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and the varsity baseball team.

    Sam Mandich was inducted into the inaugural College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. He was previously inducted into the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 2001.

    A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Mandich was born in 1917 and attended Weir High School in Weirton, W.Va. He was a standout athlete, serving as captain of both the football and basketball teams. He led Weir High to a state championship in 1935 and earned second-team all-state football honors in 1936.
