Darwin Dennison
1988 Hall of Fame Inductee
Darwin Dennison was inducted into the inaugural College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. He was previously inducted into the the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 1988.
Dennison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from East Stroudsburg State College in Pennsylvania in 1959. He completed a Master of Science degree in Health Education from the State University College at Cortland, New York, in 1966, and earned a doctoral degree in Health Education from West Virginia University in 1969.
He began his academic career at Ball State University, serving as an assistant and later associate professor. In 1975, he joined the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he held a variety of academic and administrative roles, including Chair of the Department of Health Education, Director of Graduate Students, and Professor in the Department of Health Behavioral Sciences. He continued his academic service there through 2002, when he was named professor emeritus. He then went on to serve as professor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Dennison was a certified nutrition specialist and authored numerous publications related to health education and nutrition. In 1984, he founded DINE Systems, Inc., which developed diet and health improvement software used in educational and clinical settings. His research and academic work, which began in the late 1960s, contributed to advancements in nutrition education and behavior change.
Dennison and his wife Kathryn raised two children: James and Caroline.
