Kevin Bastin
2013 Hall of Fame Inductee
Kevin Bastin was inducted into the inaugural College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. He was previously inducted into the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 2012.
A 1984 graduate of West Virginia University, Bastin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training. He later completed a master’s degree in Sports Health at the University of Miami. His career began as a clinical athletic trainer in Morgantown before serving as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Louisville.
Bastin’s professional experience spans more than three decades in collegiate, clinical, and professional athletics. He served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Washington Redskins from 1989 to 2001 before being named head athletic trainer for the Houston Texans, a position he held from 2001 to 2009. In 2014, he was appointed head athletic trainer for the Detroit Lions and served in that role until 2019. He returned to the position from 2021 to 2023.
Beyond his NFL experience, Bastin led athletic outreach and training efforts at the Memorial Hermann Ironman Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, where he served as director of athletic training. He was involved in concussion education initiatives, community engagement, and clinical innovation. His leadership helped expand injury prevention education among youth and high school athletic communities.
Bastin’s work has included roles as an independent consultant, board member for Sideline Surgeons, and developer of digital tools to support athletic safety and injury awareness.
