Biographical Sketch

Dr. McGahey is currently a Teaching Assistant Professor at West Virginia University in Athletic Coaching Education. He has degrees in Educational Leadership, Physical Education/Sport Coaching, Human Performance and Sport and Communications.

McGahey severed as a NCAA Division I and II Women’s Head and Assistant Soccer Coach for more than 20 years for multiple institutions including as a Head Coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Central Michigan University and Saint Leo University.

Additionally, he is a National Instructor and Scout for the United States Soccer Federation along with instructing state level coaching courses.

McGahey is currently serving on a United State Soccer Federation national coaching education C License Review Group. McGahey has coached athletes along the developmental pathway, from grassroots to college, from youth to high school, from Top Soccer to the Olympic Development Program.

In addition to serving as the Oklahoma Soccer Association Director of Coaching Education and Player Development and the Technical Director for the Colorado Fusion Soccer Club, McGahey as worked as the US Youth Soccer Association Region II Girls ODP Head Coach and coached regional teams in all four regions.

He has served on the faculty at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Central Michigan University, Saint Leo University and University of Tennessee – Martin. He was a 4-year men’s soccer letter winner at the University of Denver. McGahey has led and developed coaching education and player development programing at the local club, state and national levels.

He has co-authored and published one book with Dr. Peter S. Pierro, The Soccer Coaches Guide to Working with Players and Parents. McGahey and Dr. Pierro have co-authored another book which is under contract to be published, Grassroots Coaching - Using Sport Psychology and Coaching Principles Effectively.
