Biographical Sketch
Dr. Guy Hornsby is an assistant professor in Coaching and Performance Science (CPS) at West Virginia University. His primary responsibilities involve overseeing the strength conditioning and applied sport science areas of emphasis and CPS's graduate assistant strength and conditioning (S&C) program that provides S&C to three local area high schools. He previously has held S&C positions within both U.S. collegiate sport, East Tennessee State University, and the U.S. Military 160th SOAR (A), and has held faculty positions at the College of Charleston, Virginia Commonwealth University and Glenville State College.
Generally, Dr. Hornsby's research is centered around optimizing the training process for strength power-based athletes. More specifically, he is interested in the areas of athlete monitoring, various aspects of weightlifting and strength and conditioning, and coach education. Through his role as coaching science coordinator at WVU RNI HPIC, he conducts long term monitoring studies on competitive collegiate athletes and cross sectional experiments on strength power athletes.
Dr. Hornsby serves as the NSCA state director and USA Weightlifting (USAW) LWC president for West Virginia. He is a Certified National Level Coach by USAW, the head coach of West Virginia Weightlifting and a volunteer coach (throws) for WVU Track and Field.
