Alfred N. Renzella

Alfred N. Renzella was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus by the College of Education and Human Services in 2004.

Renzella earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social studies and speech from West Liberty State College in 1964 and a Master of Arts degree in special education from West Virginia University in 1968. He also completed graduate degrees in gifted education and school psychology from Marshall University.

He served Marshall County Schools for 48 years. Among his earlier roles, he was principal of J.T. King Special Education Elementary School in Moundsville, where he implemented a behavior management program that remained in use for many years.

In 1984, he became director of special education and attendance, overseeing services for students with disabilities and providing training and resources to faculty and staff. During this time, Renzella also developed partnerships with Bethany College, Wheeling Jesuit University, and West Liberty State College to provide education majors with hands-on classroom experience.

He later served as superintendent of Marshall County Schools until his retirement in 2013.
