This teacher-focused, interactive training (provided in-person and virtually) includes group-wide discussions, small-group discussions, and development of a relationship with a TRAIN buddy. Training materials and additional resources are also sent to training participants for their own use.
The training covers the following topics within a four-hour time frame:
Addiction
Learning objectives
- Teachers will be able to define addiction and identify basic behaviors (signs? symptoms?) of someone with an addiction.
- Teachers will be able to identify basic behaviors (signs? symptoms?) of children with caregivers who have an addiction.
Family Systems and Student Adaptive Roles
Learning Objectives
- Teachers will be able to utilize strategies to interact with parents/caregivers with addiction.
- Teachers will be able to recognize barriers to approaching parents.
- Teachers will be able to introduce skills to individuals impacted by addiction in a variety of ways.
- Teachers will be able to communicate addiction to the student in a developmentally appropriate way.
- Teachers will be able to identify strategies to implement in their classrooms.
- Teachers will be able to identify strategies to use in the classroom based on identified behavior sets (roles)
Self-Care
Learning Objectives
- Teachers will be able to define enabling and identify signs of professional enabling.
- Teachers will be able to describe burnout and secondary traumatic stress and describe strategies for prevention and response.
