Graduate Faculty membership expires every three years on December 31.
Membership in the Graduate Faculty of WVU denotes that a faculty member possesses the expertise in research and the experience in supervising graduate students to be qualified to direct dissertations and theses, to serve as a member of graduate committees, and/or to teach graduate courses. Members of the Graduate Faculty are expected to stay informed of the policies and procedures of graduate academic affairs included in the graduate and professional catalog, the faculty handbook, the Office of Graduate Education and Life’s website, among others.
Upon hire, tenure-track faculty will be considered Regular members of the Graduate Faculty from their first day of employment. Teaching and Service faculty with non-tenure track appointments will be considered Associate members of the Graduate Faculty from their first day of employment. If non-tenure track faculty have workload effort devoted to research, they can be considered Regular members, as necessary.
Adjunct and Visiting Faculty hired to teach graduate courses will be considered Graduate Instructor members upon hire. School Directors are responsible for ensuring that adjunct and visiting faculty meet WVU requirements for instructors of graduate courses upon hire. Graduate Instructor membership ends at the close of the contract for Adjunct and Visiting Faculty.
