Charles H. Bishop, Jr.

Charles H. Bishop Jr. was inducted into the inaugural College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. He was previously inducted into the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 2002.

A native of Grafton, West Virginia, Bishop began his studies at Potomac State College before transferring to WVU, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education in 1963 and a Master of Science in rehabilitation counseling in 1964. He later completed a doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Georgia in 1973.

Bishop built a distinguished career as a senior executive in several Fortune 100 companies, including Federal Express, ADT Security Services, Quaker/Gatorade, and Nations Bank. At FedEx, he played a key role in the company’s early development, ultimately serving as vice president of management and organization development during a period of rapid growth. He was cited by Fortune magazine in 1996 as one of the most significant human resource leaders of the previous two decades.

He later founded and served as president of Chicago Change Partners, and later, The Profitability Formula, LLC—a global consulting firm focused on aligning human and financial capital to improve organizational innovation and performance. His 2002 book, Making Change Happen One Person at a Time, was recognized by the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business as one of the 10 best books on change in four decades.

Bishop has also held public service and leadership roles on school boards and community mental health organizations and has been featured in national publications such as USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, and The Daily Herald.
