How does student health insurance work for those with graduate assistantships?

Graduate assistants are offered the WVU Aetna student health insurance plan at no or reduced cost. Graduate assistants who are expected to work at least 20 hours per week are provided with the WVU Aetna student health insurance at no cost, while GAs who are expected to work 10 hours per week will have half of the WVU Aetna premium covered. If you meet minimum eligibility requirements and do not opt out of the WVU Aetna student health insurance plan by completing the online student health insurance waiver, you will be automatically enrolled in the WVU Aetna plan. Visit the WVU Talent and Culture website to learn more about the related policies and procedures.

What tuition waivers are available for online gradaute students in CAHS?

We price the MS online programs to market as the primary strategy for helping our professional learners control their educational costs. All online learners pay the same flat rate for tuition and fees ($614 per student credit hour). Due to the use of this alternative tuition model, students in our MS online programs are not eligible to apply for graduate assistantship tuition waivers, graduate merit tuition waivers, or speicla program tuition waivers. The only tuition waiver accepted are Employee Graduate Tuition Waivers for full-time WVU and WVU Research Corporation employees who have regular appointments that qualify for benefits. This waiver may be applied to a maximum of one master's degree, one doctoral degree, and one certificate. Please view Graduate Education and Life's page for more information.

Are international students eligible for graduate assistant positions in your college?

Yes, we welcome graduate assistant applications from international students. Potential graduate teaching assistants whose native language is other than English must meet an English language speaking proficiency requirement before the college can extend a graduate teaching assistant contract offer. You can meet the English language speaking proficiency requirement in one of two ways: (1) standardized test scores as the default, or (2) the TrueNorth speaking test as an alternative measure. Please visit the WVU Intensive English Language Program website for specific details about the English proficiency requirement.
