Elizabeth Majestic
Elizabeth Majestic was inducted into the College of Applied Human Sciences Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. She was previously inducted into the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Hall of Fame in 2010 and was named the CPASS Outstanding Alumna in 2015.
Majestic earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from West Virginia University (1987) and master’s degrees in health promotion (1988) and public health (1989) from Indiana University. She completed the Senior Executive Fellows program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Over two decades with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Majestic served in senior leadership roles focused on chronic disease prevention, policy, and program development. At CDC, her assignments included Deputy Director of the Office on Smoking and Health; Associate Director for Policy, Evaluation and Legislation for the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP); Deputy Director of the Coordinating Center for Health Information and Service; and Senior Executive with NCCDPHP. At HHS, she served as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, where she helped launch the Steps to a HealthierUS initiative, served on the U.S. delegation to the World Health Assembly, and participated in the working group for the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. She also held an adjunct associate professorship in the Institute of Public Health at Georgia State University and later served as vice president for population health at Cottage Health in Santa Barbara, California.
Her recognitions include Indiana University’s John R. Endwright Alumni Service Award (2002).
