Biographical Sketch
Dr. Tom Williams retired in June 2025 after a 40-year career with Kanawha County Schools, the state’s largest school district. He served as superintendent for his final five years, leading the district through significant initiatives including a $21 million renovation at St. Albans High School and navigating the challenges of pandemic response and federal relief funding.
Williams began his career in 1985 as a special education teacher and went on to serve as a guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent before being named superintendent. He is currently contracted with the West Virginia Department of Education to mentor new superintendents.
Williams holds an EdD in Educational Leadership from West Virginia University and has been recognized for his leadership in public school administration at both the high school and district levels.
