Sharon Sisler received the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Distinguished Service Award in 2019 in recognition of her long-standing service to West Virginia University.

Sisler earned a Regents Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science in community health education from WVU, graduating magna cum laude. She began her WVU career in 1970 in the Office of Human Resources as a recruiter representative. In 1982, she joined the School of Physical Education, later CPASS, where she spent the next 36 years serving in the Dean’s Office in multiple administrative roles.

Her responsibilities included oversight of financial and support staff resources, business office operations, strategic planning, facilities management, personnel management, and resource support for programs such as the Motor Development Center, Lifetime Activities, and the International Center for Performance Excellence. She also provided pre- and post-award support for faculty grants and worked closely with the College Visiting Committee.

Sisler was selected as a member of the first cohort of the Mountaineer Leadership Academy, where she helped promote cooperative working relationships and innovative professional learning opportunities for WVU employees. She was also recognized with a WVU Values Coin during the University’s 150th anniversary celebration.

After 48 years of service to the University, Sisler retired in 2018 and was named staff emerita.
