
Andrew Hawkins
Andrew Hawkins received the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Distinguished Service Award in 2018 in recognition of his contributions to teaching, leadership, and service at West Virginia University.
Hawkins earned his undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University and master’s and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University, where he studied special physical education, behavior analysis, and developmental psychology. He joined WVU in 1980 and served on the faculty until his retirement in 2012.
During his tenure at WVU, Hawkins held several leadership roles, including Program Coordinator for Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), Graduate Coordinator for CPASS, multiple terms as Chair of the Faculty Review Committee, and Chair of the WVU Graduate Council. He also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education and on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Kinesiology in Higher Education.
In addition to his academic career, Hawkins contributed to the broader university and Morgantown communities. He was faculty advisor for Campus Crusade for Christ at WVU for 31 years, served as founding pastor of C2: The College Church, and established a community theological study center. He was the Pastor of Adult Ministries at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church for 22 years. Following retirement from WVU, he became Senior Pastor of The Village Church at Shell Point in Fort Myers, Florida, where he leads a staff of pastors and chaplains and serves as Chaplain of the Shell Point Golf Club.
