Biographical Sketch
Kim Kelly, PhD, LPC, NCC, is a Teaching Assistant Professor of Counseling at West Virginia University. Prior to entering higher education, she spent eight years as a professional school counselor, where her work centered on supporting students’ social-emotional and mental health needs, addressing barriers to student success, and creating more supportive and equitable school environments. Her experiences in K–12 schools continue to shape her approach to counselor education and the preparation of future school counselors.
Dr. Kelly earned her PhD in Counseling and Counselor Supervision from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Her research focuses primarily on school counseling and restorative practices, including the experiences of elementary school counselors implementing and advocating for restorative approaches in schools. Her broader professional interests include counselor preparation, student mental health, school climate, and approaches that promote belonging and reduce reliance on exclusionary discipline.
